A simple auto-updated blog with the PostBox

The PostBox is a new feature at myfeedlist.com. The PostBox contains the latest blog posts from multiple RSS feeds. Images that are used by the orginal blog post are downloaded and thumbnailed and saved to the myfeedlist server. This way your auto-updated blog isn't hotlinking the orginal images. When a blog (which rss feed you added to the PostBox) has a new blog post it will automatically appear in the PostBox. The PostBox includes features to prevent duplicate content: AutoLinker and WordRewriter.

AutoLinker allows you to automatically place links underneath certain words. WordRewriter allows you to automatically replace certain words in the blog post.

The PostBox can be seen as a advanced version of Rss2Anywhere and a simple version of Thumblogger.

Choose a template

Now choose a template, lets choose 'Classic Dark'.

Add RSS feeds

Click Feeds in the menu, click the 'Retrieve Feeds from multiple blogs' link. Enter the blog urls you found, one blog on a line. Press the button. Now the feed urls from the blogs are retrieved, correct the urls if they are wrong and press the button again. Press the 'Start the Import' button. Now the rss feeds are being imported.

I used my own old blogs:
http://hegre.thumblogger.com/
http://nubile-ljuba.thumblogger.com/
http://nubile-tajza.thumblogger.com/
http://nubile-girl-dina.thumblogger.com/
(you may use these but you must include a link back to the orginal blog post in your blog post, they aren't updated anymore so they are quite useless for a auto-updated blog but good for demonstrations)

Change the mapping

Select Feeds in the menu, click the title of your first feed. Click the Mapping tab. In the Message field select 'atom_content'. If 'atom_content' isn't available try them all and find out which one contains the text for the blog post. (see the Preview section at the bottom of the page).

Now the system knows where to find the text for the blog post. Click the Import tab and press the 'Reimport the rss items' button, this will reimport the rss items including the text for the blog post. It will also download, thumbnail and save any images used in the blog post.

When finished click the Format tab and scroll down to the bottom to see how the blog posts will look on your blog. Scroll to the top again and go to the 'Message template' field. This field defines how you blog post will look on your blog. Press the 'Example1' link and press the Change button. Scroll to bottom again and you will that a link to the orginal blog post is added. You should always add a link back to the orginal blog post.

Please click the Properties tab and enable the option 'Add new RSS items directly to the Post Queue of the PostBox' if you want new items from the rss feed to be added to the Post Queue. The Post Queue is discussed in the next section.

Repeat this for all your feeds.

Enabled the PostBox

Go to PostBox item in the menu and enable the 'Enable PostBox' option and press the button. A error message appear saying you have to enable 'Publish to FTP' to use the PostBox. Click the 'Publish to FTP' link and enter the information that the system needs to upload your feedlist to your FTP server.

Now go back the the PostBox. Enable PostBox again and '30' and '7' in the little fields, this means that the PostBox will contain a maximum of 30 blog posts which are newer than 7 days. Press the Change button.

Click the Post Queue tab. The PostBox Queue contains items from one or more RSS feeds that will be posted in the PostBox at a certain interval. Specify 12 as Post interval and 2 as Post count, this means that the system will add 2 blog posts from the Post Queue to the PostBox every 12 hours. Increase the Post interval if you don't have much RSS items in the Post Queue.

Lets fill the Post Queue, click the 'Add RSS items to Post Queue' link, a new page appears. Select a feed and select the items you want to appear in your PostBox. Click the big button to add the selected items to the Post Queue. Repeat this step as much as you like. Click the 'Back to Post Queue' link and click the 'Shuffle RSS items in Post Queue', this will shuffle the RSS items in the Post Queue.

The item with the lowest number in the Position column will be posted first. Enable the Posted option of the first 3 items and press the 'Save changes' button at the bottom of the page, now you have 3 blog posts in your PostBox. After 12 hours (the post interval) the system will add the next 2 blog posts (post count) to your PostBox, after 12 hours again and after 12 hours again etc.

Publish it!

Click the 'Publish to FTP' link at the top of the page. Select 'Feedlist', 'All pages' and 'All images for PostBox' and click the 'Start Upload' button. Now the system is uploading your feedlist, all pages and all the images needed for your blog posts to your server. This might take a while, but the next time it will be much faster.

When the upload is finished click the Preview link to view your feedlist a new window opens with your feedlist on your own server. If a wrong page opens go to Settings > FTP tab > and check if the url in field 'Feedlist URL' is correct.

When viewing you feedlist you might notice that some small images are broken and you receive a couple javascript errors. This is because you didn't yet upload the support files which are small images and javascripts that your feedlist uses. Click the 'Publish to FTP' link again and press the 'Upload Support Files' button, this will upload the support files to your server. You only need to do this once or if your feedlist is looking weird or is generating errors.

The duplication filter of the search engines

If you use RSS feeds which have the full blog post in them you might get banned by the duplication filter of search engines, because you are including a large text that also can be found on other blogs. You don't have to worry about this if you use RSS feeds with partial blog posts. But it is better to be safe then sorry, so use the WordRewriter.

Select PostBox in the menu, click WordRewriter tab. Go to your blog and find words that are used often. No small words like: 'the', 'a' 'this', 'with', etc. But large full words like: 'beautiful', 'boobs', 'looking', 'girl', 'chair' (let say keywords). Lets replace every 'girl' with 'babe' in our blog posts. Enter 'girl' in the Word field, enter 'babe' in the Replace with field and press the 'Add' button. Publish your blog, only select 'FeedList' cause only your feedlist has changed and press the 'Start upload' button. Now preview your blog and you will see that every occurence of word 'girl' is replaced with 'babe'. Repeat this process a couple times for different words.

AutoLinks?

You can replace words with the WordRewriter, with AutoLinks you can put links underneath certain words. Select PostBox in the menu and click the AutoLink tab. Enter 'tits' in the Word field and 'http://www.google.com' in the Url field and press the Add button. Publish your blog and preview your blog, now every word 'tits' will have a link to google underneath.

The result

http://www.sbloggy.com/teenentries/
I've added a AutoLink (dina -> http://www.google.com) and WordRewriter (Nubile -> Teen). I didn't add boxes, pages and didn't fine tune everything, that's why it's only a example.

But i don't have my own hosting?

If you don't have your own hosting then you can't use the PostBox, but don't worry you can still use the NewBox. The NewBox contains the latest blog posts just like the PostBox with the only difference that the NewBox only includes the Subject of the orginal blog post and a link to the orginal blog post.

Make it look more crowded

Make pages and add boxes with content. Move boxes to certain columns by selecting Box Move in the menu. Tune the whole thing by selecting Settings in the menu (this also includes the Advertisement options). Play and experiment!

Make it look better

Select Templates in the menu and click every link on the page, specify a image header and experiment with every field.
